2006 Daytime Emmy Awards

History is being made this year as the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony is broadcast live from 8PM to 11PM EST on ABC on April 28, 2006 from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre - the first time that the Daytime Emmys originate from Hollywood in the 33-year history of the awards. The broadcast will open with a performance by General Hospital actor and musician Rick Springfield, and the show will be hosted by Tom Bergeron and Kelly Monaco. Also watch for Grey's Anatomy cast members to present some of the major awards.

Nominees Announced

Hosting the nomination ceremony in February was The View co-hosts Barbara Walters, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, along with a lineup of popular daytime stars: five-time Emmy Award winner David Canary (Stuart/Adam Chandler), along with fellow All My Children co-stars Alexa Havins (Babe Chandler) and Emmy Award winner Jacob Young (JR Chandler).

Also on hand were Emmy Award winner Robin Strasser (Dorian Lord), Michael Easton (John McBain) and Renée Goldsberry (Evangeline Williamson) of One Life to Live; Scott Clifton (Dillon Quartermaine) and Emmy Award winner Kimberly McCullough (Robin Scorpio) of General Hospital; Austin Peck (Austin Reed) of Days of Our Lives; Heidi Meuller (Kay Bennett) of Passions; Bradley Cole (Jeffrey O'Neill) of Guiding Light and Terri Colombino (Katie Peretti) of As the World Turns.

When the Daytime nods were finally announced, we learned that Ellen Degeneres would be up for two Daytime Emmys this year - one of her and one for the show. Lissa Rinna - who recently learned her fancy footwork on Dancing with the Stars - is also nominated as a cohost of SoapTalk. ....

....AND to the major disappointment of Oprah Winfrey and Days of Our Lives fans everywhere - NO nominations are awarded to the two traditional leaders in daytime this year!
